To Be or Not To Be..Manuscript Development
As a writer, I want my work to not just exist but to be alive and well. I want my words and characters to “BE” and in order to do that a little piece of me has to be included. The reader that doesn’t know me, can feel my presence and those that do know me, well they can smile and chuckle at what they “think” they may know. In the end however, my goal is to BE present in my writing.

Start Making a Scene…You’re Embarrassing Yourself.
Reading a book without the proper scene development is like reading the writings of a 1st grader in crayon, it does not make sense. There are several facets to the scene; location, environment, characters, ambiance and character elements but instead of developing all or most of these nuances, writers tend to become one dimensional and the scene falls flat.

What’s in a Name? Naming Your Characters
How much of a thought and process goes into naming the characters of your work? Let me guess, it sounds good so why not go with it? Right? Well, you will be happy to know that there is no absolute right way to develop a name for your character. Matter of fact, it may be interesting for you to know that all writers have their own way and publishers have theirs.
Unique does not mean that the name has to be something out of the ordinary like Flower for a girl’s name or Rexart for a male, it just has to be memorable and embrace the character. Personally, when I develop character names I start with the personality of the character and work from there. A colleague writer of mine starts with the name and transforms the character into the name. The bottom line…it’s up to you. Just make sure that it’s a name that your character can live with.
